子供たちに健康な歯を/ Oral care for the children in Kham

チベットの人々は歯の健康と正しい治療にあまり関心がない。虫歯になれば抜いて終わりで、若いのに歯が半分しか残っていない人も少なくない。そこで、せめて子供達に歯の大切さを教えようと、ヴォランティアの保健の先生から分かりやすい歯についての資料を譲り受け、中国で250本の歯ブラシと歯磨き粉を購入し、郷城に運んだ。
運んだ。現地スタッフにあらかじめ歯の健康について子供たちに教えたい旨伝えてあったので、すべてを準備してくれていた。
課外授業の日、中学生達を校庭に集め、友愛会スタッフが現地の医師との協力で歯の大切さを資料を使って説明し、その後、各クラスの学級長にクラス単位の歯磨きセットを配布した。地元テレビ局がその模様を取材に来ており、その日の晩からしばらくの間、毎日放送された。
これからはもっと田舎の学校にも、歯の健康の為に活動を広げていきたい。子供達が歯の大切さを一度理解すれば親にも教えるだろうし、地元の人々も少しづつ歯の大切さを理解し始めるだろう。
The uneducated Tibetans usually don`t care about oral care.When they get a decayed tooth,they just get it pulled out,although the dentist can treat the tooth properly.Many uneducated people in their twenties have only half of their teeth ftft. As it is difficult to educate grownups bout oral care,we are trying to do it with schoolchildren Therefore we bought 250 sets of toothbrushes and pasts in Gyalthang

(unnamed Shangrila) and brought it to Chattring junior high school,where our staff,with the help of the superintendent of the tibetan Medical hospital, explained orale care with the help of easy to understand posters, which we had received from a schoolteacher in Japan. After the explanation by our staff,we distributed the toothcare sets to each classcaptain.
In future we hope to be also able to give such orale care lessons to primary school children in remote areas.
If children know more about orale care they will also talk about it at home and maybe some grownups will also care more about their teeth in future.
